BECOME A STAR ASSISTANT

How can you be competent in your job, stretch yourself professionally, and still stay within the scope of your training and duties? A truly successful audiology assistant and speech-language pathology assistant has good technical knowledge and skills—which you'll be able to show you've mastered by becoming an ASHA-certified assistant—combined with "soft skills" that are important in a team environment and when working with clients.

Show your value—become an ASHA-certified assistant (starting in 2020). To learn more, fill out the form below.

CONVEY A WILLINGNESS TO LEARN NEW THINGS

Becoming a certified audiology assistant and speech-language pathology assistant will show a commitment to your profession. And a true professional continues to learn, and stays up-to-date on current trends and research.

So, volunteer for tasks, and be willing to learn something new. Ask your supervisor how you may better assist them. And work with your supervisor to develop a professional development plan.

DEMONSTRATE INITIATIVE

Perform your routine tasks without waiting for someone to ask you. Complete your assignments on time and be thorough. Always act as though your supervisor is watching you. Learn how to become certified as an assistant.

BE ORGANIZED

Organize your tasks on a daily basis to save time and effort. And make sure your work environment is neat and organized—it should be a productive, professional space for an audiology assistant and speech-language pathology assistant.

PROJECT A PROFESSIONAL IMAGE

Audiology assistants and speech-language pathology assistants should wear clean, neat, suitable clothing; speak respectfully and appropriately to supervisors, colleagues, and clients; and arrive to  work on time.

MAINTAIN A POSITIVE, PLEASANT ATTITUDE

A positive attitude, even in a bad situation, can reduce stress (for everyone). Set yourself apart by making yourself the go-to person for your supervisor.
